(Cleveland, April 29, 2014) – Three generations of Shulas are coming home to Cleveland for the first ever
Pro Football Hall of Fame Fan Fest. Local hero and legendary Coach Don Shula and other Hall of Famers
will work with players from Coaches’ alma mater, John Carroll University, Saturday, May 3 from 11:15 –
noon. Coach Don Shula, his son, Dave, and his grandson, Chris, will then hold a press conference from 1
– 1:30PM to talk about Chris’ new position as defensive coordinator at John Carroll University, carrying
on his grandfather’s legacy at the school and in Cleveland.
The Shulas are Cleveland’s hometown heroes. Don Shula was born and raised right outside of Cleveland
and graduated from John Carroll University in 1951 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in
mathematics. After attending a retreat with the university, Coach considered becoming a priest, but he
had a stronger calling for football and realized he couldn’t pursue both careers. After playing football for
John Carroll University, Coach went onto play for the Cleveland Browns, the Baltimore Colts and the
Washington Redskins before his coaching career took off.
Reporters are invited to interview all three Shulas from 1 – 1:30 on the Gridiron at the Pro Football
Hall of Fame Fan Fest on Saturday at the I-X Center and then at a special dinner Saturday night from
4:30 to 8 p.m. at Shula’s 2 Steak & Sports in the Double Tree by Hilton, Cleveland. Reporters are also
invited to bring a guest and join Coach and his Cleveland-area family members for a free dinner.
